Martyr's Square
The Square in downtown was eery,
the aftermath of protest clear.
Shouting had ceased, the people dispersed,
yet the police remain on guard.

A loud silence,
suspicious eyes uncomfortable.
The Blue Mosque,
a melody to the deafening void.

Buildings of wealth with shattered glass,
the ground strewn with rubble.
Walls painted with messages for change,
a revolutionary's collage.

Protester tents still stood,
prepared for the next wave.
Razor wire in abundance,
blocking road upon road.

The end of the street was signalling,
an end to the decimation.
Vicious and large more so than the rest,
a road block dominating the scene.

There stood in pristine condition Lebanon's Government Palace.
