Alas, Forgotten

Alas, forgotten, lost in time's cruel grasp
My name, my face, my deeds all fade away
Like footprints on the shore, the tide's harsh clasp
Erases all, leaving no trace to stay

Once I did walk this earth, proud and tall
My voice did ring with laughter and with song
But now, no echo answers to my call
As if I never did to this world belong

Yet in the silence, I find some solace
For in obscurity, there lies a peace
No burden of expectation, no malice
A chance for my weary soul to find release

So let the world forget me, it matters not
For in the hearts of few, my memory's kept warm
