Seeing people's faces as I walk through life each day,
as they hide feelings with words spoken out of dismay.
Meant to reassure themselves when feeling sad inside,
though surrounded by friends who stand by their side.

Wearing smiles that seem part of an elaborate masquerade,
tied to a season in which are found costumes tailor made.
Reflections of inner desires lying beneath layers maintained,
as protection against life's cruelties,leaving them restrained.

Playing insignificant roles in a show about our society,
and how it attempts to remove the allure of individuality.
Reducing people into objects portrayed upon virtual stages,
within computer generated worlds full of imaginary images,

Being representations based upon someone's else's dreams,
who're oblivious to others struggling with harsh extremes.
Lost in worlds created as means for temporary escape,
from lives of mundane existence which choices shape.

Though some are strong and able to survive the storm,
others simply stay inside where they're safe and warm.
In order to move forward and discover what does await,
you must willingly accept the challenge offered by fate.
