A true green oasis in the city centre, the park is a place of attraction for residents and tourists.
It is considered among the most beautiful parks in Switzerland due to its privileged position on the lake shore, the imposing trees, the large play area and the beautiful pedestrian paths that branch out among statues, fountains and flower beds.
🌳 Composed of a very rich subtropical flora and Mediterranean-type vegetation (examples include palms, exotic shrubs, roses, azaleas, magnolias and camellias), it extends over an area of over 63,0/0/0 m².
🌳History
Historic residence built between 18/40 and 18/43 at the behest of the brothers Giacomo and Filippo Ciani, members of a family of Blenio origin based in Milan since at least the eighteenth century, in 18/68 Villa Ciani was inherited by the Milanese doctor Antonio Gabrini (18/14-19/08) and passed , upon his death, to the Milanese Dell'Acqua family.
🌳In 19/12 it was taken over by the Municipality of Lugano which used the park as a public walk and the villa as a museum.
Following the construction of the adjacent Palazzo dei Congressi (19/68), the polygonal-plan riding school attached to the villa was demolished.
🌳In the immediate vicinity of the place where the villa stands today, there existed, in medieval times, an ancient castle built in 14/98 by Ludovico Sforza (known as il Moro) and destroyed by the Swiss, after the bloody conquest of Lugano, in 15/17.

A few steps from the lively center of Lugano, the Ciani Park extends, a destination for many tourists who flock there to admire what is considered one of the most beautiful Swiss parks.
Overlooking the lake, with its 63,0/0/0 square meters of surface area it constitutes the green lung of the city.
Parco Ciani, thanks to its enviable position a stone's throw from the center of Lugano, is the place where both the people of Lugano and tourists relax, walking in the shade of the centuries-old trees: the paths wind through the beautiful flower beds, embellished with statues and fountains, and insinuate themselves among the well-kept English lawns.
The Park is divided into two areas.
The first, near Villa Ciani, can be reached from the main entrance, located at the end of the lakefront.
Here the park presents characteristics of both the Italian garden and the English garden: the large flower beds alternate with clearings of very green grass and trees and shrubs from all over the world.
The second area goes from the dock to the Cassarate river and has a more "wild" and decidedly native feel: in fact, there are oaks, lime trees, plane trees and maples, all typical of the Ticino woods.
Inside this wooded area there is an area for children, full of play equipment and suitable for all ages.
Inside Parco Ciani there are also several buildings: Villa Ciani, the Palazzo dei Congressi, the dock, the Cantonal Museum of Natural History and the Cantonal Library.

Viene considerato tra i parchi più belli della Svizzera per la sua posizione privilegiata in riva al lago, gli alberi imponenti, la grande area giochi e i bei percorsi pedonali che si diramano tra statue, fontane e aiuole fiorite.
🌳Composto di una ricchissima flora subtropicale e vegetazione di tipo mediterraneo (ne sono un esempio palme, arbusti esotici, rose, azalee, magnolie e camelie), si estende su una superficie di oltre 63000 m².

Dimora storica costruita tra il 18/40 e il 18/43 per volere dei fratelli Giacomo e Filippo Ciani, membri di una famiglia di origine bleniese basata a Milano almeno dal Settecento, nel 18/68 Villa Ciani fu ereditata dal medico milanese Antonio Gabrini (18/14-19/08) e passata, alla sua morte, alla famiglia milanese Dell'Acqua.
🌳Nel 19/12 fu rilevata dal Comune di Lugano che adibì il parco a pubblico passeggio e la villa a museo. In seguito alla costruzione dell’attiguo Palazzo dei Congressi (19/68), fu demolito il maneggio a pianta poligonale attaccato alla villa.
🌳Nelle immediate vicinanze del luogo in cui oggi sorge la villa esisteva, in epoca medievale, un antico castello costruito nel 14/98 da Ludovico Sforza (detto il Moro) e distrutto dagli Svizzeri, dopo la sanguinosa conquista di Lugano, nel 15/17.

A pochi passi dal movimentato centro di Lugano, si estende il Parco Ciani, meta di moltissimi turisti che vi si riversano per ammirare quello che è considerato uno tra i più bei parchi svizzeri.
Affacciato sul lago, con i suoi 63’0/0/0 metri quadrati di superficie costituisce il polmone verde della città. Il Parco Ciani, grazie alla sua invidiabile posizione a due passi dal centro di Lugano, è il luogo dove sia i luganesi che i turisti si rilassano, passeggiando all’ombra degli alberi secolari: i vialetti si snodano tra le belle aiuole fiorite, abbellite da statue e fontane, e si insinuano tra i curatissimi prati all’inglese. Il Parco è diviso in due zone. La prima, nei pressi di Villa Ciani, si raggiunge dall’ingresso principale, situato alla fine del Lungolago. Qui il parco presenta caratteristiche sia del giardino all’italiana che del giardino all’inglese: le ampie aiuole fiorite si alternano a spiazzi di erba verdissima e ad alberi e arbusti provenienti da tutto il mondo. La seconda zona va dalla darsena fino al fiume Cassarate e ha un’impronta più “selvaggia” e decisamente autoctona: si trovano infatti querce, tigli, platani e aceri, tutti tipici dei boschi ticinesi. All’interno di quest’area boschiva è situata la zona per i bambini, ricca di attrezzature di gioco e adatta a tutte le età. All'interno di Parco Ciani si trovano, inoltre, diversi edifici: la Villa Ciani, il Palazzo dei Congressi, la darsena, il Museo Cantonale di Storia Naturale e la Biblioteca Cantonale.
