The Letter
I was coming back to Mumbai for which I had to board the Jammu Tawi Express train from Pathankot. The platform was crowded and when the train arrived, everyone was rushing to get inside as train halted there for two minutes only. I managed to get in with my bag and sat on my allotted berth. After an hour or so, my hand touched my front pocket of my jacket and I felt a paper there. I took it out to see what it was and realised it was an anonymous letter. After reading it, my hand started shivering and I started sweating profusely. I started to panic, did not know what to do.

I saw one army officer was in the upper berth and I called out to him. Looking at my white face, he understood something is wrong and I needed help. He came down immediately and asked what's the matter. No one knew that I have called this officer for help. I handed over the letter which read as follows: "Don't scream when you read this letter. I have implanted a bomb in the train and it will blow up in two hours. You will not be able to do anything. So just go with the flow and enjoy along with the others on your trip to the heaven."

I realized I read this letter after an hour of me boarding the train. I didn't know when the terrorist had put this letter in my pocket. They are such experts. I guess he took advantage of the crowd while boarding. However, this army officer was calm and told me not to panic and don't say anything as this would create a chaos and confusion and people would start freaking out in fear.

He immediately got in action. He took out his walky- talky which he could connect with his colleagues and in a code language quickly told them about the letter, bomb and what has to be done. We had 25 minutes left. Soon we reached Jalandhar. There, everyone was asked to get down the train because there was some brakes and wires issues and all compartments needed to be checked thoroughly before proceeding further as we had to travel another 24 hours to reach Mumbai. Everyone got down from the train. Many did have their doubts that the matter was more serious but they too kept quiet so that no one panics. Everyone was safely put up in the waiting hall away from the track on which our train halted. The search operation started. The bomb squad team was called and after 20 minutes, they found the culprit which was ready to blow up in the next 5 minutes. They immediately diffused the bomb. And guess what, the bomb was planted under my coach only.

After having thoroughly checked the train, everyone was asked to board the train again. The army officer thanked me for being calm and not telling anyone what was happening and so everything got sorted without anyone getting hysterical and worried.
I told him,"Sir, I must thank you for not only saving my life but also all the 600 passengers on this train. I got alot of strength and courage from you. I have learnt a lesson of my life today. No matter what triggers off your anxiety and fear, staying calm and patient can ward off every danger coming your way in life." The officer kept that letter with him to get this possible terrorist attack investigated.
