Over and Across the Blue Sky
It was the year February 7th, 1984,
no doubt a moment to adore,

I wished to float like a star,
in the universe stretched out far,

as I leave my shell behind,
untethered from my fellow mankind,

I felt very comfortable to dare,
very anxious getting out there,

Challenger, do you see me going,
free-flying into history, admiring,

320 feet away from the shuttle seen,
manoeuvring like any learned routine,

grabbing lots of a wonderful feeling,
though it's cold and I'm shivering,

here I fly, here I fly,
over and across the blue sky.

Poem "Over and across the blue sky" is written in memory of Astronaut Bruce McCandless (June 8, 1937 – December 21, 2017) who was a United States Navy officer and aviator, electrical engineer, and NASA astronaut.

On February 7, 1984 NASA Astronaut Bruce McCandless becomes the first human to fly free in space. Bruce McCandless did an untethered spacewalk, freely manoeuvring up to 320 feet away from the Shuttle Challenger.
