Dismissed
I dismiss the surprise
With the roll of my eyes
See the patterns emerge
On the page

I can’t be too shocked
My jaw has been locked
Teeth gritted,
Yet restrained is my rage

And though I have aged,
Grown in my thought,
The hatchet I can’t seem to bury

I hold my breath in
My tongue it is caged
So weighty are the burdens I carry.
