The footsteps following me sounded closer. I ran through the empty corridors of the hospital, my heart pounding with terror.
I turned a corner and stopped short. I had reached a dead end.A man with black face mask was standing there.He also had a sharp knife.I thought he had intention to kill me.
I was a 50 years old civil servant.In my 25 years of service I got transferred to 20 different places as I was a straight forward person.I used to refuse collecting bribes.That was the reason why my superior officers hated me and they used to charge false allegations on me and transfer me.I didn't face any problem for getting transferred but my daughter suffered as she wanted to change her school again and again.Despite facing such hardships and false accusations,I was very adamant that I shouldn't support bribery.
I was working in Thirunelveli district.Last week I refused to sign on a construction work project as they didn't have proper documents.That was a contract of a defamed villain of that district.He had done a lot of murders,rapes and kidnaps.I knew all those things as I collected information of all such culprits when I took charge in that particular district.They compelled me very well to bribery but I refused.
A person who was standing in front of me belongs to the gang of that villain.I prayed to God for saving me.My heart began to beat fastly.I could hear the sound.I requested him to leave me as I had a family .But he didn't show mercy.He came with full force to kill me.I remembered the face of my daughter,finding no other way,I agreed to sign on those illegal documents.He offered 25 lakhs to me.With tears on my eyes,I bought that amount.I didn't take even a single coin from that amount instead I donated it to old age homes and orphanage homes.Though I spend it on good purpose,I still feel bad that I collected bribe.
