In this world of endless strife
I find solace in my Mexican American life
My roots run deep, my heart is proud
Of the culture and traditions that abound
From the spicy tacos to the vibrant art
Every aspect of my heritage is a work of art
The music, the dance, the language too
All a part of what makes me, me and you, you
I am a blend of two worlds, a mix of two souls
A bridge between cultures, I fill the gaps and the holes
But sometimes it's hard, to straddle two lands
To balance my identities and understand
I am Mexican, I am American
Both sides of my coin are equally important
I embrace the duality, I celebrate the fusion
For it's what sets me apart, a unique infusion
But with all the beauty, comes the pain
The prejudices, the stereotypes that still remain
They say "Go back to where you came from"
But where is that, when I am from both and none?
So I stand tall, I hold my ground
I refuse to let anyone bring me down
For I am a product of love and history
And that's something I'll always cherish, endlessly
So when the world gets too loud, and my mind gets too heavy
I take a deep breath, and I'm reminded of the journey
Of my ancestors who came before me
Their struggles, their triumphs, their legacy
And in those moments, I find my strength
To leave behind the ignorance and the hate
To rise above the noise and the fear
And just be proud of my Mexican American career
So I'll wear my heritage like a crown
And I'll walk with grace on this foreign ground
For I am a Mexican American, a beautiful blend
And I will never let anyone make me pretend
I'll hold on to my culture, my identity
And in doing so, I'll leave a legacy
Of love, of acceptance, of diversity
For all those who come after me
So let them say what they will, let them try
To tear me down with their words and their lies
For I know who I am, and I'll never unwind
My Mexican American roots that define.
