WAITING
#WritcoPoemPrompt11
The days were unending as were the nights,
She waited and waited and waited,
But there seemed no hope in sight…
Night came , gradually melted into day
But her waiting stretched long to longer
She could find no other way.
Patients came and left
Some consoled
Some aggrieved
Some wailing with pain
But she had no other option
But to wait and wait
Feeling as though she would
Soon go insane.
Waiting in itself is a complicated emotion
Waiting for good news
Seems heady like a potion.
But the neverending wait for
A loved one to get better
Is frightening , getting sad to sadder.
She sat on a bench
Resting her aching head
Against the stark white wall
While the sterile smell
Of the hospital
Made her skin crawl.
Closing her eyes
She began to mumble
A prayer
And steeled herself
To bear the pall
Of despair.
