MURDER ON CARTER'S STREET
CHAPTER 7

“What do you think you’re doing, Michael?” She said.

“Are you on your period?”

“What?”

“I said, are you on your period?”

She chuckled softly. “I heard you perfectly the first time, Michael. Why ask this question anyway?”

“Because you’re acting like one. Did I do something wrong?”

“No, Michael. Now step aside and let me leave.”

“Not until we talk about this, Marissa. I’m your husband and in the past few weeks you’ve treated me like a stranger in our home. How many times do I need to apologize? What happened that morning was a mistake. I’m also not cheating on you, if that’s what you think.”

Marissa looked me straight in the eye and said, “I know you wouldn’t do that to me, Michael and I also don’t care about what happened that day anymore because there’re more important things for me to give my attention to.”

“Then why haven’t you been doing your wifely duties? I basically cook and clean in this house. What about you?”

Her brows furrowed. “What about me? Look Michael. We’ve been married for four years. I have done everything I need to do for you as a wife and the second I stop doing some petty things, you get angry! I’m your wife and not some fucking house help. I’ve a job and it’s taking my time and energy. Yet I try to have time for us. What have you ever done in this house aside from having sex with me when you come home at night or make breakfast when you felt like it? I do the cooking and the cleaning. Stock the fridge with groceries when it’s empty. Did you ever appreciate the little things I did for you? Yes, I’m your wife, but I’m not your property. Come to think of it, you’ve never helped me cook in the kitchen, but you did today with another woman. Are you trying to fuck with her as well, Michael?!”

I don’t know why I did that, but I regretted it. Marissa looked at me with tears in her eyes. She ran into the bathroom and locked the door before I had the chance to step inside.

“Marissa, please open the door. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to do it.” Why did I have to do it? Why?!

“I don’t want to speak with you. Leave me alone!” Marissa cried out.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to lay a hand on you. I was angry. I lost it when you said that. I love you, Marissa. I’m not proud of my old ways. You’re the only woman I want in my life and that’s why I married you. I’d never cheat on you and even if I do, I’d never be able to forgive myself. You know what? I’ll speak to Voshon about Michelle. I’m sure he’ll help us by letting her stay at his place for the meantime.”

“Just go away, Michael!” Marissa yelled.

“I’m sorry.”

“I’m also sorry, Michael. I’m sorry for not being a good wife. I’m sorry for not cooking and cleaning or even letting you touch me at night.”

I heard the door unlocked and Marissa stepped into view. Upon seeing her, my heart shattered. She wasn’t the problem, I was. She chose me as her husband and I failed her. I slowly went down on my knees. I didn’t want to lose her. I needed her in my life.

“What’re you doing?” A look of surprise marred her face.

Before I could utter a word, someone knocked on the door. I cursed inwardly. I stood to my feet and walked to the door. It was Michelle. The police had come to the house. Marissa and I went downstairs to talk to them. They came bearing some news with regards to the case.

The good news was that, they had found Evelyn’s corpse on the shore. The beach was just few miles away from our home. Jayden was still on the run. We decided to get the media involved since that was the fastest way to get him. Marissa and I buried Evelyn next to her late husband. Michelle moved out of our house to stay with Voshon. Thankfully, Voshon hired a bodyguard for her.

She was able to go to back to work, but the only problem she had was with the paparazzi. Detective Leroy had questioned Michelle, Elena, Brenda Lockwood, his colleagues, and friends concerning the whereabouts of Jayden.
