Peter Obi leads opposition political parties in Nigeria

Peter Obi has proven his new position as the voice of Nigeria’s opposition political parties, by given account of his campaign funds raised during the 2023 presidential election.

By this action Peter Obi become the first Nigerian politician to publicly declared money received and spending, after presidential election as he focuses on the rebirth for a new Nigeria.


However, His current party, the labour party faces series of allegations levelled against it and the national chairman of the party, Julius Abure.

Despite been released after he was arrested by a combined team of the department of state services DSS and the police, Abure is undergoing trial on alleged attempted murder and molestation of Anslem Aragbe, the Youth leader in the splinter group led by Lamidi-Bashir Apapa



The Julius Abure led LP were said to be at a meeting with other party leaders and their Governorship aspirants in preparatory to the Edo governorship election scheduled for September 21 this year, when a combined team of the police and operatives of the DSS stormed the place and whisked away Abure and Kelly Ogbaloi



Abure was arrested two days to the party's primaries for the 2024 Governorship election and the action has continued to generate insinuations of political motives which party members claimed it was targeted at the presidential candidate Peter Obi.




Other allegations against the national chairman Julius Abure include forgery of signatures and replacement of candidates without due consent of those involved



Abure has also been accused of theft and misappropriation of party funds and In a shocking revelation, the national treasurer of the labour party Oluchi Opara names properties acquired with the party's fund by the national chairman of the Party ,Julius Abure, in July 2022.


The properties mentioned by the national treasurer are:

1. 4-Bed Semi-Detached Duplex – in House 49 Road 2, Federal Housing Authority, Guzape, Abuja. He bought in August 2022 at the cost of NGN 180,000,000 from a company called ENL Consortium.

2. 8 units of Luxury Apartments at Paradise Hill Estate, Guzape, Abuja – each acquired from ENL Consortium in August 2023 at NGN 45,000,000 each. a total of NGN 360,000,000


3. Parcel of Land measuring 1,524m² located at Road 2, Federal Housing Authority, Guzape, Abuja – He bought in August 2023.


4. 5-Bed Detached Duplex on Road 2, Federal Housing Authority, Guzape, Abuja, acquired at the rate of NGN 380,000,000 in November 2023.


5. Mansion he constructed for NGN 523,000,000 at Number 1 Julius Abure Way, off Ogumwenyin, off Aruogba Road, Irhirhi Benin City, Edo State.


6. Mansion constructed for NGN 400,000,000 located in Arue village, next to Late Chief Tony Anenih’s Villa, Uromi, Edo State.





Julius Abure is being accused of financial scandal involving the misappropriation of over 2 billion naira in funds donated to the party by Obedient group and Labour Party supporters.



The national treasurer Oluchi Opara also alleged that the Labour Party's bank account which is controlled by Julius Abure has made transfers to the following bank accounts:

oluchi Opara futher said that Abure used another means to embezzle 5 million naira from the Labour Party account on the 25th of January 2024, this time, A clerk at the Labour Party National Secretariat,. Chidimma Ositadinma was bank account used.


As the controversy deepens, questions remain about the extent of Abure’s involvement in fraudulent activities and the fate of the party’s reputation moving forward.

The party’s treasurer alleged that before the arrival of Peter Obi to the Labour Party and before donations from citizens into the Labour Party account, Julius Abure lived in a small 2-bedroom apartment located at number 30 Oran Street, Wuse Zone 1 but he has now moved out from the property during the campaign period, moving into a PURCHASED 4-bedroom duplex in Guzape Abuja. Also, the following properties have now been purchased by the Labour Party Chairman, Barr. Julius Abure between 2022 and 2023 when Peter Obi joined the Party and when Obidients began donations to Party accounts:

With these allegations before the economic and financial crimes commission, Julius Abure defend himself through the national publicity secretary Obiora Ifoh saying audit was done and the report submitted to the independent national electoral commission INEC.
