Greed's Deception
Greed’s Deception

There’s an Indian series, which I have become addicted to. At first, you might believe that the drama is like the rest which came before it – A lovey dovey drama. But, if you have a teensy bit of patience, you will realize it’s quite different. It’s caked with so many juicy plots and intense or slightly silly characters that you can’t help but fall in love while learning a thing or two.
I can boldly say that’s what happened to me. Actually, I don’t believe in watching dramas or shows for the sake of it. I always try to pinpoint and tear apart a movie so I can get some context, I may not likely have seen. It keeps me on my toes during movie hour. You know, that rush when you know what’s about to happen in the next scene. Yet, there are some scenes that completely throws you off balance. Why? You weren’t expecting it.

This series has that sort of vibe. I’ve been hyping it up since I started this write up and you don’t even know the title. Should I delay it for some time? Um… no. I can see you cussing at me from the comfort of your screens. Ah… I’m quite over dramatic. Well, the title is; Sacred Relationships. There, I said it.

As the title says, it’s sacred. Though some of the characters haven’t realized it yet. It has actually gotten worse as I type. I’m sure you’re confused. Don’t worry, I will clear off the misunderstandings.

Let’s do a quick recap. The Rajvansh are notorious for their fame and business acumen. They pride themselves in dying and living for the family. It’s something that gives them ultimate satisfaction. Though, there is a clause or a smear. Meenashi, the elder daughter of the Rajvansh got married to a cheat, named Mehul. He almost usurped their wealth as his. But thanks, to an oversight, his plans became known.

Yet, it was too late. Meenashi was already pregnant with a male child, which she would later name, Abir. To make things worse, Mehul had secretly married another woman from his hometown, lying to her that he was unmarried. If you watch the series, you would see how deceptive he was and still is.

Meenashi had her father’s business to save, a son to protect and her husband’s second wife to handle. Too much drama for a young woman but she had no choice but to take it all in stride. Her husband’s second wife was also pregnant. She will give birth to Kunal but will never make it known that she is his mother.

You may be shocked, but she didn’t have a choice either. She is poor. And she would count it her good fortune that Meenashi, fondly called Meenu would take Kunal as her child. No soul, other than these two women will know the truth.

Well, that’s a story for another day. Today, we will be dealing with greed and its various colours.

Years later, Abir and Kunal were grown. They were inseperable, yet, completely different. Kunal was the serious brother while Abir was fun loving. Yet, Abir made the tough decisions for him and his brother. He was the eldest, after all. Abir never ever wanted to be a part of the business. He preferred being an artist and working in the NGO. This made all the responsibilities and privileges associated with the business to fall on Kunal’s thin shoulders.

Kunal didn’t mind it and would prefer to work till death if you’d ask him. He was such a workaholic. Well, this wouldn’t be for long because he would get married against all odds.

Kunal fell in love with the Kuhu Maheshwari, an illegitimate child. As God would have it, Abir fell in love with Mishti Maheshwari, the adopted child.

Though, Kuhu and Mishti grew up together as sisters, they never got along. They were always fighting. Kuhu never liked anything that Mishti did, no matter how Mishti tried. Now, the two will marry into the same family.

Your guess is as good as mine, there were problems everyday. It grew worse, instead of going down. Since Mishti was the elder daughter-in-law, due to Abir being the first son, Kuhu was very offended and bitter about it.

The truth behind Kunal’s birth has become known due to a disaster that happened to Mishti, and Meenashi held it against Mishti. She wasn’t the only one keeping a grudge, even Kuhu was. Kuhu was depressed that her husband was the maid’s son and was at a loss at how she would redeem it all. The fortune, that is.

She shouldn’t have bothered too much. The opportunity came in handy this previous week. Mishti cannot have a child and Meenashi wants a true heir.

Meenashi will go to any length to get what she wants. I would give it to her, she played her cards right this time and a very reluctant big fish. Kuhu will have to be the surrogate mother for Mishti and Abir’s unborn child.

You see, Kuhu was bitter. She didn’t want to do it. So, she left her matrimonial home and went down to her family house. All the while, Mishti and Abir didn’t know Meenashi had a hand in it. Though, Abir suspected, but, there was no proof.

Meenashi finally got her way. How? Kuhu changed her mind overnight. She struck a deal with Meenashi that she and Kunal will have the whole property. Meenashi agreed to this.

Like I said, Mishti and Abir were in the dark about all of this. They wanted to adopt. They didn’t want a surrogate. That will change, though, not after all the whining and pleas from Kuhu. She became sweet to Mishti overnight, just to achieve her aim.

I will stop here with the narrative and dive into my speech. Lol.

You see, greed is like a thief. You don’t know when it crops up on you.

– FAVODY WRITES
Kuhu had always been into herself, which her family called immaturity. She never saw that she was wrong or she needed to apologize. She was never contended with what she had, either. She always believed she was in a competition with Mishti.

This mindset sets her backwards. It brought her down when she should have been up. Being a surrogate mother isn’t easy, but then, she never ventured into it for the right reasons.

When, you do not know the difference between blood and strangers, love and hate, sacrifice and entitlement, then greed sneaks in. She and Kunal would never have been poor and Kunal would surely get his share in the Rajvansh property, for it is no secret that Meenashi loves Kunal a lot. Yet, it was not enough. It is never enough when you are blinded with thoughts to covet more than you have.

With that said, so many of us, don’t really know how to deal with contentment. You may ask, so I should settle for less or let someone walk over me all in the name of being contented? No, not me! That’s where your preconceived definition of contentments puts you in trouble.

Being contented is simply believing in yourself and working with the means (resources) you have. It's not eyeing other people's things.
When you let yourself be swayed by people’s status, you begin to envision yourself getting what they have. Greed sets in and this means, you want to get what they have at any means.

Learn and acknowledge that greed doesn’t come at once. It uses various emotions to get us at its feet. More on greed will be up in the future.
