#MothersDayStory
The time had come to start my journey. I leaned out of the window, waving as long as I could while she disappeared into the distance. The taxi driver gave me a reassuring look as the car sped through the hills and towards the airport."Don't worry," he said, "You'll be fine." I nodded and leaned against the window, counting trees to relieve my anxiousness. I looked behind me, hoping to see my waving mother out of the back window. But she was no longer there. It was me, alone.
When the car reached the airport, the driver helped me get my bags and shook my hand while trying to calm me down. My flight had to leave in two hours, so I decided to get some coffee to calm my nerves. As I made my way to the coffee shop, I heard a car screech behind me and a voice that sounded all too familiar.
"Wait!"she screamed, "Alyssa Stop!"
I stopped in my tracks and looked behind me to see me mother running at me yelling at me to stop.
"Wait Mum- How did you- Why?" I stammered, unable to make anything out of her sudden visit. Mum pulled me into a hug and explained herself.
"Alyssa, I thought I was ready. But nothing could have prepared me to see my little girl leave. I know you're getting late, but I couldn't bear to see you go like that. So I came here, and I want to give you this."
She wiped a year off of her eye and pulled out a small pink bracelet with a silver cat head charm on it. She had burst into tears and cried "I know it's stupid but just, wear it? Please. Just to know you'll be safe."
I also began crying and put on the bracelet. With a final hug and no more words, my mother ran back to her car and drove away.
I calmed down and boarded my flight in some time. It was my first time flying without holding my mum's hand. I held the bracelet and made it through the flight, all the way to college.
Mum didn't make it. She over sped while driving home and in a blur of tears, she didn't see the truck coming at her.
Happy Mother's Day mum.
