Consequences of lifestyle
"How is he now?" Asmit asks with a heavy voice.
"He is sleeping now. He hadn't opened his eyes for last 10 hours." Suman said in a weak voice.
"Why this is happening to him. He is such a good guy." Asmit lamented.
"Don't you know why?" Suman spoke firmly with an anguished expression on her face.
Suman had every reason for being angry, and Somewhere deep inside, Asmit knew it. Suman is his brother Rajesh's wife and right now both of them were sitting on the hospital bench while Rajesh is present in the Surgical ICU.
Rajesh, a dentist was a free spirited person, loved by his family and friends. Always partying, travelling and having fun was his life motto. Asmit and Rajesh were close and would love many outings together. Suman had only married and joined their family for last 2 years. It was an arranged marriage and they were a happy family.
But there are small issues that cause fighting between Rajesh and Suman.
Rajesh was a heavy smoker and loved to organize drink parties for his friends. Suman always requested him to stop smoking or limit these parties but he ignored her pleas.
Asmit too supported Suman while they requested Rajesh but Rajesh cleverly changed the topic. Being part of some of Rajesh's parties, Asmit too felt guilty. They never thought anything would happen to his health as he too was from medical field.
Then it happened, that shook them to core. It was a normal day, Rajesh was returning from his clinic early as he was feeling unwell.
" You look tired, anything wrong? " Suman asked him.
" I feel feverish, may be viral. Let me rest." Rajesh replied with a smile and went to his bed.
It was in the night when Suman went to call him for dinner that she found him unresponsive. He had blood coming from his mouth. Suman panicked and shouted, causing her father in law to come to their room.
" What happened?" her father in law asked.
"Rajesh is not answering, something is wrong.' Suman cried, 'What should I do...Rajesh!"
"Don't worry, I am calling Ambulance, you stay with him." His father in law called Ambulance and Asmit, who was living in another house.
They took Rajesh to emergency. The doctors did the examination and investigation. They asked for an emergency surgery to save his life and proceeded for the same. The surgery was successful and right now he was sleeping in the ICU, after being sedated to prevent pain.
" I understand your concerns Bhabi, I too had requested him to stop his smoking and drinking. I never thought that this will happen. He is so young. " Asmit comforted her.
" It has nothing to with age. I told him so many times. Why do we take poison, after knowing the risks. What will I do now?" Suman had tears in her eyes.
Asmit looked at her with remorseful expression. He had nothing to say.
