Just as that thought entered her mind her phone ranged. It was Jorge; a smile came across her face. It was just what she needed; a feeling of relief enter her body. She was excited and happy to hear his voice; it seemed like forever since they’d last talked. Thirty minutes into the conversation and her phone beeped; her eyes grew large and her heartbeat increased. Out of all the people that she knew, why did it have to be Alex?
She definitely wasn’t made for this; she stop hearing a word Jorge was saying. She had to keep asking him to repeat what he said; the phone finally stopped beeping. After a while there was two quick beeps which meant he must have left a message. Her mind went totally blank; Jorge might as well have been talking to himself. She made up an excuse that she had to finish completing her applications for her internship, which wasn’t a total lie.
The deadline for her applications was one month away but she had to find out what it was that Alex wanted, so she needed to end the call so she could check the message he left. When she retrieved the message this is what she heard: “Hey Sara, Alex here just checking to see how you were doing; hadn’t seen or spoken to you in a while. I was wondering want your schedule was like and seeing if you wanted to hang out, catch a movie and get a bite to eat. Sorry I missed you but call me back if you’re interested.”
Sara really wasn’t sure what to do; she was wondering what he meant by “interested”. She was in a relationship and wasn’t sure what Alex’s intentions were. She really didn’t want to give the wrong signals but was curious to see what he wanted. She thought for a moment and then decided that calling him back wouldn’t do any harm, and not calling him back would be kind of rude.
She picked up her phone and tapped on his name to return his call; it ranged several times with no answer. Just when she was about to hang up she heard his voice in her ear. “Hey Sara what’s up?, he said, “I was just getting ready to go out and grab something to eat”. She apologized and stated that she was just returning his call. “Oh okay”, he replied, “So what do you think? I can pick you up in thirty minutes unless you need more time”.
