Insomniatic War...
#WritcoPoemPrompt37
In the quietest part of the night,
When you hover between dark and light,
Wondering if you can float away on dreams,
Hoping they won't turn into screams...
Staring at the ceiling as you lie awake ,
Hoping the nightmares stay away
for your own sake

A hollow feeling at the pit of your stomach and sweat drenching your sheet,
The blood in your veins ice-cold,
from your head to your feet,
Hovering between reality and sleep,
Exhausted to your core as you lie in a pathetic heap

You start floating on a cloud as slumber
enfold you in it's warm embrace,
And just as you begin to dream,
The nightmares hit you in the face,
The darkness appear and the monsters
come out to play,
You are running and screaming,
trying to get away

Your heart is racing and
your body is in pain,
Thunderous rambling and
then you feel the rain,
Wet and cold and shivering with fear,
You taste the familiar saltiness of a tear,
You start screaming as loud as your
tight throat will allow you too,
Suddenly you are awake,
Another night of no sleep
will just have to do.
