Echoes of Empathy
Sometimes I vent and complain about my day,
Seeking comfort, their full attention, their stay.
I pour out my troubles, my worries, my woes,
Without a thought to what their heart shows.

Their eyes may hint, their voice may waver,
Yet I keep talking, seeking a savior.
Is it selfish, this need for validation,
To place my feelings above their situation?

I never pause to ask how they’re feeling,
Caught up in my world, my own healing.
Am I blind, am I deaf to their silent cries,
Am I selfish, seeing only through my eyes?

Their problems, their pain, they hide away,
While I demand their time, their day.
I see it now, the balance unfair,
A conversation should be a space to share.

So I vow to listen, to give as I take,
To see beyond my world, for both our sakes.
For in understanding, in mutual care,
We find comfort, a burden to share.
