Our Merry-Go-Round
What would you do if the whole sky abruptly opened up
And eons worth of Mother Nature's anguish all poured down
Would you try to use the spills of her pain to fill your cup
Would you sink— Would it suit you well, an aquatic playground
Would you swear up and down that it's all just a big mistake
Would you insist she has no reason for the sudden drown
Would you attempt to write it off for a tidy tax break
Would you capitalize on the mass panic of your town
Would your next-door neighbours recall how you were a saviour
Or just another clown profiting off of a big frown
If you were to be judged solely by your behaviour
Would you be given a silver star— a gold-plated crown
Would you ever so quickly disappear— out of favour
Would you assume there is no calm demeanour to be found
Would you scream for someone with a bright orange lifesaver
Would you beg them to get you back onto a solid mound
Or would you attempt to act a little bit more braver
Would you try to turn Mother Nature's emotes back around
Would you adjust her purview justly or just enslave her
Do you think that you could take Mother Nature pound for pound
Would you step up— would you volunteer to apologize
Say I'm sorry— even if you hate the way those words sound
Would you stare Mother Nature straight in her dread-flooded eyes
And tell her to fall into place— back into the background
Would you have her demonized— could you sorta empathize
Would you feel enlightened— would you find yourself quite confound
Would you, at long last, innovate a way to optimize
The way that we treat our host— our merry-go-round
Or would you continue to keep buying into the guise
Would you look away— say there's no solution to be found
Would you lay back— float those feet— accept our fate, likewise
Would you expect the world, as a whole, to fully rebound
