Metaphor
My mind an ocean
My body the shore
Waves crash unimpressed by the sand
While idly by I stand
Your arrival was doctorly
Riding in you are my calvary
Your voice cuts through my raging winds
“Be still.” You speak over all my lands

Your touch is rainfall
Upon my barren earth
Your eyes are diamonds
Burrowed ‘neath my hearth
Your embrace is lovingly
Reminding me of certainty
Your time beside me is ephemeral
Longing both for just some more
We are islands sharing salt on distant shores
Even with this distance you are perfection

I wish I knew a better way
To regale you in my mind
But poetry to me
Keeps my heart and brain aligned

Sometimes it’s simple
Sometimes far too complex
Complex, like similes and metaphors
