The loud, hollow siren of the ship's horn jolted the sleepy, port town.
She emerged out of the swirling mist like a star making a grand entrance. Only she wasn't a star but a ship that had been missing for the past hundred years...
The town people gathered watching as the ocean split before their eyes.
Some fell to their knees chanting the god's name while other drew their blades and forks.
Canons were brought to the castle wall and women prayed with their children.
Unprepared as they were, soldiers gave a war cry, wearing their armors of steel and cloaks of gold.
The sky which was once a pleasant blazing violet brew of sunset turned dark and cloud filled.
It felt as if demons were about to ascend the land from under but the only threat visible was the ship.
A reminiscent of a massacre that had only been heard by tongue and read through the scripts.
The roaring of the water siezed and men waited with their shield help up high and sword ready to charge.
Silence grew eerie to the point that beating of hearts and thumping in the ears seemed like a song in sync but then came a melody.
A melody so disarming that shields fell to the ground and swords clattered at once.
A fleeting note hit the air, a tune so beautiful that a deep slumber was summoned and one by one, folks began to fall with a thud, lost in the dreams of spring and warmth and delicacies.
The haunted ship was drenched and covered with sea weeds, emanating a tragic lore but a movement on the broken mast stole their attention.
In flashes she pranced, never appearing in the sight and the soldiers gulped to fight the unknown.
And then she quit her game and swam forward towards the path between the sea that she had made. Giggling, Siren hit a high note and brushed her fiery hair with her fair, long fingers that swayed in the wind as if having life of their own.
Approaching the shore, her waist revealed shimmering scales of gold that united into a lengthy, twirling tail that shone red under lightening.
Slowly, her tail began to split and morphed into a set of human legs and she touched the land for the first time. Solid, unlike the ocean, it never flowed. It was as if the time was arrested here and so was the calm.
Soon, after her the sea became one, two waves crashing and demanding the beat of thunder and so were they granted.
The lightening struck, one at the ship so ocean swallowed it whole and other at the castle bell, playing a mind numbing clamour that rendered her target in a shock.
Dawdling and limping, she made her way, her eyes set at the sight above where the castle stood tall and brave. Behind the walls stood a man wearing a crown and armour of gold.
Siren smirked and sang louder and sharper and the King levitated in the air, floating and shouting as she summoned him to the port.
Throwing him at her feet she stepped back and a shiver ran down her bare skin, she had unintentionally called a storm.
The king's breath hitched and vision cleared as he was pulled up by unseen force.
Joining his hands he prayed, shaking with fear and through his trembling lips he tried to utter,"D-Daughter... Forgive me-" but his plea was interrupted while he choked on air, his face red and fearful.
"You shouldn't have sacrificed me, father. We had a deal." She watched him with a touch of malice and hummed, closing her eyes.
The keys of the ballad followed effortlessly as though they have been woven by the goddess of music herself. The townsfolk began to gain consciousness and gasps along with the screams replaced the silence of humans.
The king saw her and gripped the hilt of his sword. Shouting, he swung at her and Siren stepped back in surprise watching her broken flesh and betrayal hit her once again.
Blood trickled down her neck and hot pain flared from the wound.
Her windened eyes set themselves upon the king whose chest heaved with anticipation and she closed her eyes back again.
King waited for her to fall down and give up life but the skin near the wound stretched and the gash began to sew itself.
Siren inhaled and extended her arm forward, determined and clear headed this time.
'Never again,' she swore.
King cried out, crawling back from her as visions of his every nightmare tumbled back into his mind and thr Siren feasted upon his painful screams.
She twisted her fist in a sharp motion and the king gasped, eyes scarlet and veins popped.
Pulling the life outside of him and she watched his body fall back, blue, pale and sunken.
A chaos erupted at the port and sea tore itself again.
It was time to go back. For now.
She flipped back and disappeared under the waves.
