The Saddest Distress

CHAPTER 1

“Yay!” I yelled, as my dad agreed to get us fish; our first pets. Sunday morning, 8:30 a.m, after church. If given a choice, I would have bought a dog instead. We picked 2 goldfish. The shop owner said with a huge smile “No chocolates” as he handed us the fish in a small plastic bag. On our way back home, my sister and I took turns holding the bag. It was so exciting to watch the swimming fish.

Once we got home, my dad patiently transferred the fish from the bag to the fish bowl. We spent the whole day staring at the fish bowl as the fish kept swimming. Phew! The day went by so quickly.

Something happened the next morning that struck me so hard. As I went to say ‘hello’ to the fish, I noticed that one of them was stationary. It was gone, forever. The saddest part was burying it in my garden. My first ever pet. My day at school was spent by thinking about the other fish I had. I didn’t want to cry in school, so I didn’t talk much.

Once I got back home, I locked myself in a room and sat quietly with my favorite stuffed toy in my arms. To cheer me up, my mom asked me to help her bake a cake. The day went by so quickly and as I lay on my bed, I prayed and hoped that the other fish was doing okay. I checked on the fish the next morning. Luckily, it was all okay and made me feel a little better.
After a few days, my dad bought more fish: guppies. From then on, I fed the guppies everyday and took care of them. I was happy that these fish were doing okay for long enough.
