Thomas Alva Edison (February 11, 1847 - October 18, 1931) was a well-known American inventor and businessman, and a co-founder of the General Electric corporation. At the age of 23, he became the founder of a unique scientific research laboratory.

During his professional career, Thomas obtained 1093 patents in his homeland and approximately 3000 outside of the United States.

Talented organizer Edison put high-minded science on commercial tracks with his inventions and linked experimental results to production. He improved the telegraph and telephone, and constructed the phonograph. Thanks to his persistence, millions of incandescent light bulbs were illuminated throughout the world.

Edison did not become a "mad scientist" living in obscurity and poverty in his old age, but achieved recognition. And yet he had neither higher nor eve...
