CUPP condemns approval of N3b for national register verification
The Coalition of United Political Parties, CUPP says it is disturbed by the reports that the presidency approved the sum of three billion naira for the suspended minister of humanitarian affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu to verify the national register of the poor.

Caption:In a statement signed by the national secretary, Peter Ameh, CUPP said such amount of money is “outrageous and mind-boggling”.

He said CUPP believed that a prudent approach could have achieved the same goal with lesser money through the acquisition of the same national register from the thirty-six states of the federation and FCT wherein the rural areas are predominantly domiciled.

CUPP condemned the approval by Presidency through the Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila.

The opposition parties says the spending through cronies such as New Planet Projects Limited, a company controlled by the family of Bunmi Tunji Ojo, the Minister of Interior undermines whatever little confidence Nigerians may have had in the present government, and therefore brings to the fore the urgent need for more rigorous budgetary oversights by the National Assembly.© IHIMHEKPEN OSCAR OGIEMHONYI
