6 Ways To Have a Productive Morning
@arifchaudhary

The way we spend our mornings can really set the tone for the rest of the day. If you want to have a productive day full of focus and positivity, your morning routine needs to be the same. So if you are struggling to get your morning routine down to an art then here are some tips on how to make the most of the beginnings of your days.

Get Up On Time

This is always going to be the first in every list of this type. If you are not getting up on time you are not setting the right tone for your day.

I know it can be difficult to get straight up and so easy to snooze but it is one of the most important things to do in the morning.

If you dream of being a morning person here are a couple of hacks that I use to get up on time and not get back into bed.

DRINK LOTS OF WATER THE NIGHT BEFORE

I always make sure I drink lots of water before I go to bed. This means that when I wake up in the morning I am more often than not in desperate need of the toilet.

Not only am I creating a healthy habit but it forces me to get out of bed when my alarm goes off to make a quick trip to the bathroom.

Now you will need to play around with just how much you drink, you don't want to be getting up in the middle of the night or even worse not making it to the toilet. But I feel like this is such a good little hack.

Then once you have got up to use the bathroom, do not allow yourself to get back into bed. Use this opportunity to make your bed and start getting ready.

PUT YOUR PHONE/ALARM ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE ROOM

Not only should you be doing this to stop scrolling through your phone in bed but if your alarm is on your phone you don't want to be able to reach it from the comfort of your bed.

If you put the phone in another corner of your room then, again, it forces you out of bed to turn it off. And ban the snooze button from ever being used. Once you are up and out of bed you cannot return again so you must turn your alarm off.

Create a Checklist

Do you know how many times I forgot to take my vitamin supplements or forgot to pack my lunch for work?

We go to bed with all of the good intentions on how we are going to start our day but once we feel a little groggy in the morning paired with all the things we have to do before work or school we can forget the most obvious of tasks.

So create a Checklist. Something you can go through each morning to ensure that you are not forgetting to get your good habits in.

This means you don't have to do that 5-minute scan of your room thinking of what you might have forgotten or running back into the house once your halfway down the street to grab your lunch.

You can even turn this checklist into an actual routine if that helps even further by writing down what time you will carry out each task. This will help if you struggle with your timekeeping.

Stay Away from Your Phone

It is easy for us to go straight to our phone and start scrolling through Instagram or checking our emails as soon as we open our eyes in the morning. But this is so unproductive and before you know it, half an hour has passed and you leap out of bed worrying about being late.

So much time can be lost when we are on our phones so just leave it face down until you are ready. Nothing will be that urgent and it will help you ease into a more natural morning routine.

Make Time for Breakfast

We are always told by health professionals that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and they are not wrong. But we are not going to look at the health benefits but more of how the act of eating breakfast shapes your morning.

Sitting down and allowing yourself time to eat something will give you a little time off from running around and getting everything together.

It's like a little pause in your routine and lets you relax and really enjoy what you are doing at that moment.

If you spend your entire morning frantic then you aren't going to enjoy them and you never will become a morning person. But if you take it easy and have some time to yourself then it's going to be much easier to enjoy your morning routine.

The Night Before

This point is going to help so much with getting up on time. What time you go to bed is going to determine how you feel when you wake up in the morning. You want to wake up feeling well rested and like you are ready to face the day.

Also if you eat crap the night before you will wake up feeling sluggish, probably a bit ill and -if you are like me - then ravenous!

So you must realise that the night before will affect the morning after. So eat sensibly and don't snack before bed. Get to sleep at a reasonable time. Set the tone for the next day.

Give yourself more time than you need

There is nothing worse than rushing in the morning. Not only will you probably not be able to get those little tasks done but you will feel stressed and once again, set a tone for the day.

So either get up earlier or make your routine more streamline. Is there anything you can do the night before so you don't have to worry about them in the morning?

Maybe put together a little routine where you finish ten minutes before you have to leave the house. That will give some leeway if something goes wrong, or ten minutes to take it easy before you head out the door.

Which of these tips do you think will be most useful in your morning routine?
