Nostalgic Memories
#WritcoStoryPrompt6
I can never forget the joyous days of my childhood, especially the summer when all we did was swim in the river or lie on it's edge. Sometimes it was a real fun to climb up the branches of mango trees in the neighbour's plot and keep hanging there as long as not caught. What a delight plucking raw mangoes and eating with salt ! How can I forget the scheming brains of my friends who were ready to save each other by hook or by crook . Fortunately , that day never arrived when we had to matetialise our plans if being caught by neighbour's watchmen.

Once , during the hot days of May , I sneaked out of my house finding my mother deep asleep after the morning session . I had promised my friends Madhu, Rama and Sunny that we will arrange a short marriage ceremony of our sweet doll , Leena at Dinu's place, a christian friend of mine. Her parents were very eager to help us . I didn't know then , that the boys of the colony could smell the whole affair. One of them , Sandeep , hardly 9 years old, happened to be the group leader , and had his own malicious designs that kept popping at the slightest word of happy moments in our camp. He came with his band , mostly on their small bicycles and hovered at the main gate of Dinu's house where we all had gathered for the bride , Leena's marriage with Sunny's doll Harry, the groom . We sensed the danger . There was only one way to tackle with the obstructions. And we were extremely grateful to uncle and aunt , Dinu's parents , who brought lots of 'Jalebis' (sugary sweets) from the market with lots of small cup cakes from their own bakery and heartily distributed among the boys . After this episode the boys were told that the marriage will be held exactly at 4pm , so they can go home and get dressed and come as 'baratees' from the groom's side. That was too good a deal. Although I hated making them a part of our Doll's marriage .
