The Crosswalks
I walked into the crosswalk. Pep to my step. I was going to go see my sister, it was her birthday. I had gotten her a couple candys and a new coat. A car whooped passed me, so close I could feel the wind in my hair as it passed.
¨I thought pedestrians have the right of way!¨ I screamed
It didn't matter, I was off the crosswalk. I live a couple blocks away from my sister. I passed a couple people on my way. I saw a couple teens riding bikes down the street, their parents not to be seen. There was a couple I passed heading to the next crosswalk. They looked like they were fantasizing about each other, staring into one another's eye, almost running into me. I decided to stop by my brother's apartment to say a quick hello. My niece ran to me with my arms wide. She was 6 years old, eyes fluttering with amazement for the world she has yet to understand. She has strawberry blond hair and brown eyes unlike her mother but identical to her father, although he has lost it over the years. Just then he walked out as well. When we were children my mom and father never wanted to take us anywhere. We were always roughty, aging didn't change that much. Although matured we still act like when we were 16, hanging out with people we shouldn't and always hurting people in ways we didn't think we could.
¨Hey!¨ I said loudly to him.
¨Whatcha doin here¨
¨I just wanted to drop by, I was hoping I could see miranda.¨ Miranda is his wife. She has red hair and they have only been married for two years and together for 3. Lucy their child is not my brothers, Michal, but of another man that I never meant, but my brother has assured me he was never nor will ever be a nice person that's deserving to see Lucy.
¨She's not here right now, sorry¨
¨It's okay I'll be going now, nice to see you Luc. You're still coming to Catie's birthday right?¨
¨Yeah, I wouldn't miss it! I might be late, I have to wait till Miranda comes home¨
Then I left.

I walked to the next intersection. Checking right then left then right seeing if there were any cars coming. I couldn't let what happened earlier happen again if I want to go to this birthday party. I stepped left then right, left then right. I got across the street, safe and sound. I kept walking, letting my brain wander. I almost walked into a telephone pole, thinking that my mom was already there talking about the horrible things me and my twin brother did in our childhood when my sister was already off for her first year of college.

I got to the next crosswalk, now there were only three left to cross. At some Point before getting to the crosswalk I had taken out my phone. I didn't look up either, I just had a feeling it was okay for me to cross, and so I did. Once across I took a quick look back and what I saw was vile and made me want to throw up on the curb of the road. There was a dead animal. So mutilated with its guts splattered and its tongue sticking out so unnaturally so I couldn't even begin to guess the animal.
I kept walking. I didn't want to look at what was left of that poor creature. I began to itch. Began to feel like something was wrong, but it went away as quickly as it came. The sun had now disappeared by some floating clouds that looked as if they could bring rain. It was quite warm for a fall near winter day. There had been crisped up leaves on the ground crunchy crunchy under my feet. They made me almost so happy and joyful that I almost forgot where I was going. That was when I noticed I had just crossed the road. I was so distracted that I didn't even notice my feet stepped off the sidewalk. I also didn't even notice the guy in the passenger seat of a car flipping me off and the driver blaring his horn. Now there were only 2 left to cross.

I started to approach the next. It was closer to the last one unlike all the others. I looked at the time on my phone before I put it away, it read 3:15 pm. Once again I had a bad feeling, I should turn around, look a couple extra times and then cross. But then it went away and I crossed the road.

There was only one left to cross now. It was quite aways away from the one I had just crossed. I looked back this time and saw no horrid creature. So once again I was happy. I just wanted to get to my sister's hangout for a bit and hopefully sneak a ride back home with my mom just like the old days. Except this time she would drop me off at my apartment after i´ve had one too many shots and she would go on her merry way home. I was almost to the last crosswalk until I saw a car speed through a red light. I still felt that it was safe. I also felt that it was my turn to go. I didn't look right left right like I should have, but I thought it was okay. I thought I was in the right. The red was light and when I took a quick look there was no car in sight.

But then there was something. I saw the glint of a headlight off of the light pole that I was getting closer to. I heard the skidding of tires. My knees buckled and I fell. My legs felt tingly, they felt non-existent. Panic started running through my veins. My heart was pumping blood so fast I thought I might explode. I now could barely see that light pole I saw only a couple seconds ago. I felt as if I was wrapped in a blanket. I heard a door slam. Footsteps. A distant voice called out but I couldn't reply. Then I saw nothing. Not the light pole, not the glint, and definitely not the skid marks the tires made in the center of the road right before collision.
