Write a story based on the phrase "You will realize a person's worth when they are gone.
Once there was a man named Jack who had a group of close friends that he cherished dearly. Jack was the life of the party, always cracking jokes and making everyone feel at ease. He had a way of brightening up any room he walked into and was loved by all who knew him.
However, Jack had a habit of taking his friends for granted. He would cancel plans last minute, forget birthdays, and not take the time to truly listen when his friends needed to talk. His friends would forgive him time and time again, believing that Jack simply had a lot on his plate.
One day, Jack was diagnosed with a terminal illness. His friends were devastated and rallied around him, doing everything they could to make his remaining time as comfortable as possible. They spent countless hours by his bedside, holding his hand and reminiscing about old times.
As Jack's condition worsened, his friends realized just how much he meant to them. They saw how much joy he brought into their lives and how much they would miss him when he was gone. They were filled with regret for not telling him how much they appreciated him sooner.
Finally, Jack passed away surrounded by his loved ones. His friends were left with a deep sense of loss and wished they could have done more to show him how much he meant to them while he was still alive.
