Iris [Twilight] - 22
On the night of Iris' first shift, the entire family sat down with her to discuss the changes that were going to happen. For all of them, it was difficult. Realistically, she had to be sent back to La Push for some time to master her shifting. But. knowing how hard Iris' life had been there, the Cullens couldn't bear to let her set her foot on the reservation.

And this was where they wished at least Jacob was alive. At the very least, he would have gotten all of the support in the world and his daughter wouldn't be lonely during her first shift. He would have explained everything to her, all of the tribe's legends, he would have trained with her.

The Cullens were aware Iris felt conflicted about her shift. There was no need for Edward to read her mind for all of them to understand that all of this was new for her.

Iris hated what had happened to her. She was beginning to hate herself for allowing it to happen to her. Not only she never fit in among any of the relatives she had stayed with, but now this?

Why was all of this happening to her?

A fear of hers was causing her body to tremble. What if the Cullens threw her out, like a dirty kitten? Iris was a freak, after all. She belonged nowhere.

Little did she know she had ended up in the freakiest place of all.

"Sweetheart," Esme began when the family was settled down in the family room, "We are vampires."

"But we don't know exactly what you are," continued Carlisle. "Your father was a shapeshifter and your mother was half-vampire."

Each member of the family took a turn to continue the story how they had all been transformed, up until Renesmee and Jacob's deaths.

Iris slowly nodded her head, understanding.

She could understand perfectly that she wasn't supposed to be born. That she wasn't supposed to exist.

Just like her mother, who Sarah had labeled as "filthy".

Iris was an abomination - an even bigger one than her own mother.
