ah. dreaming?
#WritcoStoryPrompt71
You woke up feeling great. Your neighbours’ loud dogs weren’t barking and you don’t hear the kids fighting over toys. You proceed to follow your morning routine as usual and go to work. What do you think happened? Create something extraordinary as a story.
I go into the kitchen and it seems there are no kids in sight, the misses isn't to be seen either, no need to panic, I thought - it might be unusual but still, maybe it's a special day?
I open the pantry and pull out cereal then the fridge to get some milk and finally a bowl to put it all in wham bam then a spoon to scoop it up.
I walk around the house trying to find everyone but to no avail. I look at my phone which had been charging overnight and find that there's no signal and no unread messages.
Strange. I reassure myself. Don't panic.
I finish my cereal, toss the bowl in the kitchen sink and prepare my day wear then walk into the bathroom for a shower.
I put on the shower and the steam starts pounding through the house, funny because the kids tend to use it all up before I wake up, I think to myself. don't panic.
I finish my shower and change into my work clothes, prepare my bag. I look around for any kind of note telling me where everyone is, or at the very least where my lunch is for the day, but still. nothing. don't panic.
I open up the garage door and find that the wifes car is gone. strange. don't panic. I get into my modest modern sedan and open the garage door.
Well, I think to myself there's no traffic - which is weird since there's always that conga line of cars that are a bit too close for comfort. don't panic.
The radio is emitting white noise so I start streaming a podcast I had previously downloaded the other day which echoed through the streets but same thing. nothing in sight. don't panic.
On the highway same thing. roads are empty. what in the world is going on!? I thought to myself. and repeated to myself, don't panic. almost a thousand times before I arrived at work where the parking lot was empty. don't panic. I said to myself another thousand times before getting to the elevator.
I had to have said don't panic another thousand times in the elevator which seemed as though I had been in there for an age.
As the doors on the elevator opened I let out some obscene words to express my now fearful dread and panic at what was going on.
Am I the only person left on the planet or something?
rightfully freaking out now which I probably should have done when I found the roads and streets being empty all the way to work with no signal.
I start running around the office like a chicken with its head cut off.
Then after that I start to hear noises coming from somewhere to the tune of a dog barking and kids fighting over toys, that's where I bump my head on a supporting beam above me and wake up.
"honey, you're sweating. are you okay?" my wife says while holding my cheek in her slightly cold but soft hands.
"just a bad dream. don't worry" I replied. My head thumping where I had hit my head on the supporting beam.
I then look over at my wife as she has a smile on her face. her eyes open and close sideways like how a lizards eyes would. don't panic.
