The crocodile tubes
The crocodile tube- Parashar Bezbaruah
"Let's jump into the pool!". I shouted to my 8- year old twin brother in excitement. It's summer holidays . And we were enjoying our last few days of summer vacation in a resort along with our parents and our aunt. The resort was very old and very few people were staying over. It was located in an isolated hill-top, a 3 hours drive from our home.
The resort had a seperate huge swimming pool for kids and we are the only kids over there. It wasn't a deep pool and the water was crystal clear. Not a single speck of dirt was there on the surface. Also, the resort had its own animal shaped floating tube collections to be used by kids in the pool. So I wenr to the toy room and brought two dark green coloured crocodile shaped floating tubes in the pool. I threw the tubes in the pool in excitememt and we both started to dive and splash in the water. We were having the time of our lives. We knew that we had a lot to share with our freinds once the school reopens. We both were doing some ultra-crazy stunts inside the water.
Suddenly, I notice that the tubes were missing. They were not floating. I thought there must have been a leakage so they might be underwater. I put my head underwater and I saw two dark green coloured figures at the bottom of the pool. I got curious. I inhaled a lungful of oxygen and again looked for them underwater. But, those figures were nowhere to be seen. I looked around out of curiosity, but couIdn't locate them. I got tensed and I look at my brother's direction. Then I saw those green figures swimmimg towards my brother.
I panicked. I was trembling in the water with fear. I realised what those shapes were. Those were crocodiles. Real crocodiles. I shout out to him. But he was busy with his strokes. I wanted to distract those crocs. I looked for the tubes but they were not in the pool. I was shocked and terrorised. I shout out to him again . Thank god he noticed those crocs too. We both got out of the pool as fast as we can before the crocs could devour us. We were both panting and scared to death. Those were dangerous looking crocs with sharp yellow teeth and scary eyes.We both looked at each other in disbelief and thanking god to be alive. We both wanted to cry but couldn't.
Those tubes turned into real crocodiles the moment it was put into the pool. We both couldn't understand what was goimg on. Not even a sound was coming out from our mouths.
" So there you are",our father arrives. We both wanted to run towards him and tell him everything. But our hands and feet seemed to be paralysed with the experience we just had. We were still trembling and shuddering with fear. "You look exhausted. You must have played a lot. Go and freshen up. And look at those lovely crocodile tubes. Let me take those to our pool side "
We couldn't believe our eyes. The tubes were lying outside the pool . We didn't pull out those tubes from water. How come they were arranged by the poolside. We got more scared.
I wanted to warn my father, but not a single word came out from my mouth. I was in shock. I looked at my brother. He was in shock too.
My father took those tubes and threw it in their pool for adults where my mother and my aunt was also there. We both wanted to stop him but we couldn't even speak a single thing. We were numb. Maybe due to fear of the supernatural monstrous incident that just happened with us.
And then we saw the thing that would change our lives forever.We saw the tubes changing their shapes to something monstrous and disappearing below the surface of water.
It was the last we saw of our parents and aunt that day.
