I blinked as I regained consciousness. Did I hit my head hard, or did someone hit me? After a moment, I realized I was holding a bloody knife in my hand. I immediately knocked down the weapon and ran towards my car, which was parked on the expressway, and got inside. Knowing I was in big trouble and somebody was around, I tried to turn on the motor, but it was clamped, so I couldn't get it running. For my anxiety, I glanced at my phone and found that the battery was dead.
It all happened two hours before when my wife and I were driving to Goa for the launch of my contemporary book. While we were driving down the highway, our car abruptly stopped with a tyre blasting sound. Upon getting down, I was surprised to see that the front left tyre was punctured. Because we were in a hurry, and there was no mechanic around, I began to change the spare tyre in the car. The second I got out of my driving seat, I felt a heavyweight on my head, and in a while, I felt like I was going to faint. What's going on? Where's my wife?
Now that I was fully awake, I cried out her name and ran from the car in fear. Darkness covered the sky, and all that could be seen was dense forest on both sides. With a torch clutched from my emergency gear behind, I grabbed a hammer and ran to the jungle.
It was extremely cold and frightening. Could it have been that she had been injured or perhaps I stabbed her? As I moved, I kept thinking about the knife and the blood that was on my hand.
