Just Us and the Stars
October 31st

"Kye. Kye!", my little sister exclaims as I sit up on my bed. "What?" I ask irritated, rubbing my tired eyes.

"Can you help me put on my Halloween costume?", she asks.

"Did you mess up and make it too small? Aww poor thing", I joke. Liza has always made her own Halloween costumes, she refused to buy them. She says that "it takes the fun out of Halloween". Yes, although this was probably the stupidest opinion I have ever heard, it always worked out for her. Her middle school has this costume contest every year in which the winner gets two whole weeks of free dress. She has won every year, and now since it's her last year in middle school, she is really determined to win. This is why I've been teasing her all week. It's always funny watching her get mad at me.

"No, it fits perfectly, but I need help with the zipper", she crosses her arms.

"Fine, but you owe me ten pieces of Halloween candy tonight."

"We have deal." she points at me to the direction of her room, even though I know perfectly well where it is. We walk into her room and then I see it. A Captain America costume laying perfectly on my sister's orange bed. "I know right, pretty cool." It is obvious that it was homemade. Not because it looks bad, no, it actually looks incredible; but it has more details, the blue is brighter and the costume looks really soft.

"Wow." I stare at the costume in absolute awe. Liza absolutely loves Captain America, she has a full drawer filled with merch from Comic Con. Looks like she finally decided tk dress up as her favorite superhero.

"Yeah I know, I'm amazing, now help me get this on." Liza takes her pajamas off and throws them at me. I'm looking at the opposite direction. Yeah sure, we're siblings and I've seen her like this before, it just feels uncomfortable. "Come on, hurry up! I have school in thirty minutes!"

"Whatever", I pick up the costume and help her slide into it. When she's finally in, I grab the zipper and zip.

"Thanks!"

"You are welcome, see you after school", I wave at her. She has school almost two hours before me so now I have a pretty long time to get ready.

"Oh by the way, what are you gonna do today", she asks, picking up her fat backpack.

"I'm gonna watch a horror movie at Anna's. I'm not too excited though, cuz she's bringing some of her friends from her new school." Anna has been my best friend since kindergarten, but recently she moved to a new school. We live pretty close to each other so we still hang out; but I can't help but think that tonight's gonna be awkward with her other friends.

"Oof, that sucks", she leaves the room and then I hear her scream, "Good luck dear brother!"

"So who else are you bringing", I ask Anna as she glares at me through her phone screen. She has such a serious look on her face, but it's hard to keep a straight face because of the fact that she's wearing a candy corn hat.

"Just my other friends; Olivia, Ben and Layla." There's a pause, "Don't worry, they're really chill. They don't drink or smoke, it's fine. We're just gonna watch the movie and eat some pizza." It's like Anna can read my mind. Ever since I started high-school, I've been scared of going to one of those parties where everyone's drinking, smoking or making out.

"Good", I say, "I have to go now, talk to you later." I wave at my phone screen.

"Bye."

The warning bell rings and a close my book, pick up my backpack and leave the library in a rush. As I walk the hallways, I don't see many kids dressed up. I see a few superheroes, siths, jedis and some kid dressed up in an inflatable baby costume. "Nerds", I whisper to myself which causes me to chuckle a bit.

I'm dressed up as a cereal killer. My sister just glued small cereal boxes to a shirt and splashed it with red paint. It's a pretty depressing pun but, dressing up is always fun. Hopefully Anna's friends are fun. I really hope that they aren't like the teens in the movies. Maybe I can befriend them or something, having one more friend never hurt anyone right?
