The setting was perfect. Candlelight, polished cutlery and a single rose set in a delicate vase at each table.
"I can't do this." I pulled my hand out of his and took a few steps back. "I can't."
"Hey, what's wrong Liv?" He looked worried. Of course he did. Actor. Hypocrite. Cheat. He was all of those things. It was odd, how I could see so vividly beneath the mask.
I ran my palm down my face, shaking my head. "Don't force yourself to do this, Finn. You don't like me. "
"Why do you think-"
"I saw you that day. And, your sister told me everything."
" Huh." He scratched the back of his head. " Oh well, I guess I tried. "
He shrugged it off and we turned away from the restaurant. "How long have you known? "
"I suspected something from the start actually. " I tucked my hands into my coat pockets as we trudged through the snow.
"And you did nothing?"
"Hey, I got free food out of it. I wasn't willing to say anything at first, but then things got serious and I felt guilty."
"Guilt made you do it?"
"Mostly. Also the fact that, besides being an annoyingly good actor, you're a chill guy. "
"You think I'm cool? Back at ya Tiger. "
"Of course you think I'm cool. Everyone thinks I'm cool. I was born cool. "
"Sure you were, " He rolled his eyes.
My phone rang, I pulled it out of my pocket and frowned. "It's Andi,"
"Your 2 year long crush?"
"Not anymore. Total jerkus. Almost as horrible as you are,"
"You said I was cool a minute ago,"
"Yeah, when you weren't trying to get me to fall for you. " I snorted.
"Good point, "
I put the phone in my back pocket. "Heyyy, why don't we get burritos before hitting home base?"
"Ooh, you want to go on a date with me now? "
" Hell nah. I just want free food."
" What'd you think about Cole's Food On Wheels? It's right around the corner."
"Oh wow. Sounds exotic. "
" Hey. You denied a reserved table for two in a 5 star restaurant. What am I supposed to think?"
"Okay, fine. I won't hold this over you because you're paying. "
" I'm always paying, "
"Once I get a job, I will rub it in your face so hard."
"Don't. Just so I have someone to waste money on. "
"Jerk. " I pushed him away.
"Your jerk. " He pushed me back.
