Lost Childhood 9
It was on a Friday after a long and hard week that Alejandro decided to stop by University Medical to visit one of his buddies from work. Jose Garcia had been shot while on
duty working on a case with Alejandro three months ago. He was recovering nicely but had had some complications along the way. Doctors said he would be in the hospital two to three more months.

When Alejandro was entering his friend’s room Sara was taking Jose’s vitals. He hesitated for a moment but when Sara looked up and smiled Alejandro was taken aback by how beautiful she was and continued to approach Jose’s bed to greet him. He gave Sara a slight nod and politely returned her smile, lightly patting his friend on the shoulder. Keeping his eyes on Sara. Jose saw Alex’s interest and introduced the two of them.

When Sara finally left the room, Jose teased him about the awkwardness of his behavior around the nurse. Jose also agreed that she was a looker and informed Alex that she was spoken for, but that didn’t wane his interest one bit. She was constantly in his thoughts and that was probably not a good thing. He had to stay sharp and focused on the things that were important.

He had just been assigned a new case and it was going to take everything he had been taught in his years on the force to stay safe and potentially save a lot of other lives. There was a lot of suspicious activity going on around the checkpoints in El Paso. Although the militia was assigned to patrol the border and those areas, they were requesting additional assistance from local authorities. Alex had been assigned to head up this task force. He was also given permission to choose his own team; it was times like these that he really missed Jose.

Sara couldn’t understand why she couldn’t stop thinking about Alejandro; she was in love with Jorge and they had made plans to be together when he finally arrived in the States.
Maybe it was just loneliness or the idea of receiving that type of attention from someone of the opposite sex. After all it had been almost four years since someone looked at her the way Officer Sanchez had but quickly came to her senses .

She had too many other things on her mind and didn’t need any other distractions and especially someone has handsome as him. Anyway he probably already had someone he was interested in and was just being friendly. That didn’t change the fact that he had really interested her and she couldn’t understand why. Okay Serafina, snap out of it; you don’t need to go down that road, she thought. She turned the page in her textbook and began reading the next chapter in preparation for her final exams next week.
