Near the Water pt. 14
The images of my past, my present, and even the remains or glimpses of the future lingered in my mind haunting every single step within my self conscious mind. Each step was more blinding than the last, a fog within the glints of light only led me into more obstacles.

Memories like movies played around me, sounds of screaming, sounds that slowly haunted me more and more the closer I was, no matter how many steps I took. I soon came upon a familiar voice, the closer I got to it, the more visible the memory was as if I was reliving in the moment. I got closer and when I did there were 3 individuals talking.. One appeared to be my mother, but another had a resemblance. The only difference was a scar down her cheek as if she was a warrior fighting for a battle she won with a price. When I finally gained the courage to look further to the next individual my brain completely shut down, my heart raced sending a stabbing pain to my chest each ticking second... It… it.. It was Alex..

The treacherous bastard, I called my lover, had only used me for the gain of power, or the sensation of being loved by someone who’s life only mattered on a chess board, each piece if placed carefully would soon result in the fantastic feeling of winning. I slowly stepped away from the horrifying memory, as my hands trembled uncontrollably, my knees wobble only allowing me to take a few steps before collapsing inside my subconscious mind. My thoughts race with questions, “ what should I do? Is this real? Why? What exactly were they discussing? Why me…?”

Gasping for air I awoke with my hands tied tightly around the tree I was placed against, I looked around slowly only to be blinded by a cold, sticky liquid that ran from my forehead down the side of my face. Tightly clenching my right eye shut. Panic began to rise from the pit of my stomach making my insides howl, I quickly started squirming to get my hands free till being interrupted by a familiar voice that sinkered, “ Well, well, well she finally decided to wake. How are you feeling, deary? Hope I didn’t hurt you too badly..”

Letting my head dangle as I gazed to the ground I instantly replied, “ hehehe, I can’t wait to make you choke on those words, you annoying bastard.” I could hear the anger in his voice as he muttered under his breath. Once again I tried to loosen my hands free, but failed several times over, wanting to give up and give into everything. I let my hands fall back to their positions but as I did, I remembered the knife I always carried around in my back pocket.

Trying to reach my pocket I managed to make it half way before feeling my skin tear slowly under the ropes on my wrists, throughout the pain, I moved closer grabbing the knife and started to cut the rope to free myself. Alex turned to face me this time he was closer, sending shivers down my spine, and my heartbeat quickened.

I could feel his breath on my neck, making my nerves tense up and the urge to run stronger. I moved my hand slowly with the knife hoping with all my being he wouldn’t notice… Time passed like hours.. Days even, his stare made my skin burn as I faced the ground debating my next move. Without any moment's notice I felt a sharp pain shot through my right lower abdomen. When I looked at the blade I had made for Alex lay resting half way inside.

My heart raced faster, only making it more painful each second, breathing heavily. I relieved the pain from my wrists and finished the last piece of rope and free’d my hands, and started sprinting through the woods only to hear Alex yell behind me a chant that sent the Slinderman-like fingers quickly after me. I turned for a splint second holding my abdomen tightly after pulling the knife out and threw it on the ground. The Slinderman things followed me surrounding my every direction, I came upon a small stream and a little further on layed a large tree.

Running as fast as I could I lay against the tree hugging my knees and applying as much pressure as I could handle only to notice I still continuously bleed out. Branches, twigs, and dead or dying leaves crumbled around me. The feeling of fear and anger overwhelmed from the inside as Alex got closer humming a melody you’d only hear from psychopathic murderers, “ Rowan, oh Rowan you and I both know hiding’s not going to help you this time..”

He’s right, there is nothing I can do, I’m surrounded by several of these things, while bleeding out. I felt tears weld into my eyes, my hair sticking to my face as I laid my forehead onto my knees. I replied, “ what do you want from-” before I had the chance to finish my sentence I was cut off by loud growling and earth quaking marching.

Looking up I started to see red glowing eye’s beyond the bushes and tree in front of me, my head began to get light, I’ve lost too much blood… my vision became a blur, and I could no longer feel pain, I looked up once again to see a wolf… no wolves, hundreds of them, but one larger than any other I have ever seen stood next to me gritting his teeth tightly, glaring at Alex. A few seconds passed before he howled, sending every wolf to appear from every direction and attack.

Before he left, the wolf next to me looked me straight in the eye’s as the remaining color in my face left me, I began to fall, seeing only darkness… I don’t remember where I was, or where I’ve been, I remember falling but never landing, my life had left me….. Or so I thought..
