That Light in Your Eyes
I’m still standing on your doorstep—
We’re still kissing on the porch.
and I’m still sipping at the whiskey
that you barely even poured.
And you won’t let me inside,
but I can see that light in your eyes.
Now I’m dreading my tomorrows
and I long for yesterday,
because I don’t have time to wallow
in my memories today.
Have you forgotten me,
or is there still that light in your eyes?
There’s a lingering impression
of the final words you said
beside the deepening depression
in your pillow on the bed.
Are you still willing to try,
or have you lost that light in your eyes?
Do you think it didn’t matter,
all those things we said before
all our future plans had shattered
like a shot glass on the floor?
I just can’t tell you goodbye,
because I see that light in your eyes.
I just can’t tell you goodbye,
not once I’ve seen that light in your eyes.
