Life is a path my friends.
Ups and downs. Moving fast towards the end.
Leaving behind small signs in the dirt.
Those same signs are quickly returned to the Earth

Personal goals litter the trail.
Separate goals are also unveiled.
Hurrying to reach them without realizing,
That haste is speeding towards a fast unaliving.

Aside from all that there are times of realization.
Times that require much less contemplation.
Taking each step with a confident stride,
Suddenly noticing both shoes are untied.

The simplest task. Wouldn't take long at all.
It might slow progress, and reduce risk of fall,
But the next goal's ahead. Could it possibly wait?
Deciding to ignore it and get underway.

The detail ignored but soon in for a shock,
The inevitable happens and you trip on a rock.
The wilderness around, for a moment, is a blur.
A "thud" and an "oof" are the only sounds heard.

No real injuries just an embarrassing spectacle,
And the same loss of time that before was unacceptable.
It takes a few moments for bearings to be gathered.
Both shoes out of reach where you cartoonishly splattered.

Life is a path my friends.
Really not a lot of time till the path finally ends.
Don't neglect the small things that are considered a waste,
Cause when it matters most, you could fall on your face.
