SMELL THE COFFEE
wake up and smell the coffee
your cup is fully full, not less empty
we’ve been battered for too long in this dungeon
a cage laced with thorns we once called home
our skins and bones no longer grieve as planned

our bows and arrows are tucked far
our knives are sheathed, sword down
we only wield clubs and sticks for revenge
aiming not for your life but to incapacitate you
letting you live while you lay waste and regret on your crutches

for too long you’ve preyed on us
we who should be merry and swim in plenty
we who ought to be the celebrated around the globe
but see us, turned scavengers on a heap of emptiness
turning soils and scouring for dashed hopes

our dim lights has finally become green
the opium you force-fed us has worn out
we have woken from our slumbers with hyping jack
adrenaline now surging in our weak veins
our hands are trained now for your jugular

sleep but don’t shut your eyes
yawn but make sure no air is released
walk but don’t let your sole creek
for retribution has sew a coat on your behalf
neatly dry-cleaned for your ordination
