It’s a Poem Not a Book
They all keep repeating
Poetry doesn’t have to rhyme
But what if I like the way the words flow
What if I like the way they climb
They all keep explaining
It doesn’t have to sound alike
But what if I can’t read it straight
What if I need rhyme for words to fly
They tell me
“It’s too choppy”
They say
“It’s just too much”
I find it quite obnoxious
The way they think I rush
Then try to cover with compliments
On how the words had made them blush
Some people never get it
But that’s alright with me
I guess in a world of humans
That’s all that we can be
Even though that’s how it works
I still wish they understood
Why can’t people read what I wrote
And not explain the rules to me
If poems don’t need to rhyme
Then why be poems at all
At this point it’s just talking
It’s normal, nothing special
If you want commas and periods
Go read a book instead of this
Because I shouldn’t have to put and end
To the words that had flown then
