we're sitting on the bench
on the patio
which i spent such a fortune on
when we both knew that neither of us
like to go outside
(because the sun's far too bright
and the pollen makes me sneeze
and the 'outside' isn't anything special
compared to you)
so we only seem to use it
as a place to drink and cry
(over that money we lost
and the money spent
on buying these drinks
for all these drunken strangers
that we only invite
to make this place seem less empty)
because if home is where the heart is
then maybe if we fill this
cold concrete foundation
(with laughs and swears and moans)
and that stupid fucking useless patio
(as you tell your friends)
with desperate get-aways
to secretly touch
and sob on your shoulder,
our hearts won't feel so
lonely.
