A Distant Memory
Once upon a time so young
I stumbled upon a house undone
Heaps of pans and spoons everywhere
I knew not to touch them but I dared

A shrill cry came from above
I turned to look and lo a woman atop
The shortest staircase I have ever sprun upon
A short laugh came up undone

'Tis a stranger in my house if you please
Come up and face me' she called out in a breeze
I shook my head and held a small sneeze
At the clutter and the dust, I had to squeeze

'It is but one woman in plain old dress'
Nothing more to see and nothing less
Turning round and round at best
Till I stopped and pointed West

'What brings you here of places dearie'
She turned to face me her voice filled with fury.
I reminded myself I was on business clearly
Nothing here can stop me seeing this really

'A visit no doubt is all I asked
What more shall I do at the task?'
She shook her head and took out a mask
Held it to me and said 'tis what you lack.'

No doubt I could not go out
Without a mask no doubt
I thank her for her kind words without
Expecting she was gone poof all around.

Was it but a ghost in the house?
As I turned and look about
And saw a familiar smile looking out
From the portrait of my mum no doubt.

'Tis my mum in her ghostly form
Haunting and tidying up my dorm
Yet the whole house looks to be taken by a storm
I could be seeing things and thought it wrong.'

My mum in her ghostly scene
With her bright eyes it seems
Hello mummy dearest of all angels
I miss you of all and thank you to all.

Come find me when I am ready to go
But let me be as I fight this battle alone
I will avenge all who have fallen
As this never ending battle from dusk comes calling.
