Unspoken Bias
Have you ever had a strange feeling that you've been treated differently
Often past over and held back deliberately
In the halls of learning, or at the desks we sit,
But some faces shine, while others doesn't fit?
It's a lingering feeling, sort of hard to shift,
Of being treated differently, a weight too heavy to lift.

Often at work, in the bustle, among the so called strong.
There's a sense of uneasiness, like you don't quite belong.
Differences noted, sometimes in subtle ways,
Leaving shadows cast, in the light of each new day.

Even among friends, as they laughed before your face,
Yet still, there's a whisper of difference, leaving an icky trace.
There in the silence between words, it looms,
A feeling of being outside, even in crowded rooms.

It's felt in whispered glances and subtle cues,
And then it lingers, like morning dew
At times it's gentle, like a soft breeze,
Other times, it cuts, just like jagged keys.
But unspoken bias will always dance and sway
Leaving a trail of doubts along the way.

So hold fast, dear soul, hold tight onto your worth,
Don't let other's behaviour, causes you emotional hurt.
Cause in your uniqueness, lies strength and resilience,
To rise above and soar like eagles to your purpose.
Besides, belonging is your birthright, and not something you should earn.

So speak your truth, let your voice resound,
And in the echo of your worth, let it be found.
Cause though the world may treat you askew,
In every encounter, in every exchange, let your love and kindness continue to shine through!!
