This cat and mouse game our hearts play
leaves me in complete disarray
with a void ever my companion
and a sorrowful duet as a musical backdrop
to a story that touches the heart
I see yet cannot grasp
the key held by another soul
to that most coveted heart
the sinking begins on sight
with flashes of laughter
leaving a bittersweet taste in my mouth
I hear yet do not understand
the incessant beats in my chest
that leave me weak and in despair
what i never had was lost
