On the Day the Moon Decided to Marry the Sun
On the Day the Moon Decided to Marry the Sun

R.

Well, I'll tell you a story
you're that kind of good guy

you're the kind who understands messages up
in the sky

it was a new kind of a day
it was a new kind of fun

it was the day the moon decided to marry the sun.

what did ever the sun
see in his bride ?

I'm sure that I know
it's not a surprise

the sun saw himself
when he looked into the moon's eyes

that must be the reason
or so I surmise

What a day it would be
it surprised everyone

it was the day the moon
decided to marry the sun

From far far away
Came a color array
auroras and auras
and quanta
that wouldn't behave

it was quite an occasion
for Einstein's equations

It's the warp wedding that had
never been done
on the day the moon decided to marry
the sun.

The bridesmaids were
orbiting
moons and constellations

the rehersal lasted
several days

& for your information
the moon was too shy
for a telescopic view

she had a dark side
and issues
not a few

So, the place was chosen
by a party of ten

Venus, Uranus
and outer space men

in a throne
in a ballroom
near the
Andromeda Strain

with musicians
magicians
and rays
without names

A canopy was concocted
for a zero gravity room

satellites held up the canopy
and dark matter
played a bright tune

The invitaions to the planets

a light year ago were sent
but a fast trip to the wedding was made
by a light that was bent

the bride arrived
quietly
it didn't want too much fuss
it had to fix up
its craters
and clean up its dust

the sun arrived
on time throwing
red and blue flames

there were stars beyond
numbers
most without names

At the altar
a priest
of an elderly age
managed the cermony
and quietly
read from each page

of a ceremony
found
deep in the sea

in the sea of Tranquility
appropriately

But as the service
began
before words came from
the priest's lips

the moon and the sun
had a lunar eclipse

the room then grew dark
for several long days

the moon in its
fright
went through
phase after phase.

no planet or stardust
knew what to do

but problems with weddings
was of course, nothing new

then the eclipse ended
the Universe gave a sigh
then the Aurora Borealis
lit up the sky.

the sun and moon
exchanged the rings
that Jupiter brought

The sun then kissed the bride
and the room became hot

the moon then caught fire
and nothing could be done

and so there will never
be another moon
marrying the sun.
