Someday the wind
Someday the wind
Above my coiled springed hair
says come with me but
I know I was born in a land
Far away from destiny
I know my limbs clutch to
The soil beneath my feet
I know the sun-burnt sand
in Uyo singing Ukapadisua
spells a melody in the name of
my Forefathers.
Home is a jealous god bellowing
One thousand reasons to stay.
One thousand. The green is
Each leaf the bloom of a star. Is
Each limb the frame of goodluck.
So
I yearn for the grey and snow.
For gloved fingers & a scarred tongue
from too-hot tea.
