these stupid rules that keep us apart
i sit and wait for our hour of normality
our hour of family
I brought everything we used to do for fun
but, now it all fits in a shoe box...
anything more would not make room
for the others counting on their hours
mommies and daddies and babies
all touching lives separately
fitting the mold randomly
Imperfect shoe box families
i love and miss you both
even when it's not
my scheduled time to do so
every 1st, 3rd and 5th
like "love you's" and "love you nots"
but, i'll always love you
even if the rules keep us apart
And if only an hour to prove it to you
