The River

The river that flows down the hill,
Is never able to be a moment still,
The rocks and pebbles at it's edge,
Lie as steady as the dead,

The people walking steadily by
Looking as if they are quite shy
Perhaps afraid of the river
that is not looking stiffer

Birds burying their heads beneath water
looking as if they are shorter
Boats floating above the river
Stop in areas that differ

Sediment suspended in the channel
with people looking for a paddle
The river gradually loses power
And the rocks would have had a shower

The rocks look so smooth
Whilst they are still on the move
Abrasion breaks the rocks apart
Which the rocks take to heart

Rocks smash against a cliff face
As fast as a high speed race
Hydraulic action is the proper name
The rocks are the pain
