Someone told me the drink was poison
and I wonder what it was
about its danger that appealed to me
Drinking a high
that wouldn’t make me drunk
but would get rid of yawns
Ironically, someone told me
that yawning was addictive
and I joked that that’s why I did it
as if a reflex was a controlled substance
different from taming monsters
At one point my job was a zoo
and I said I was the animal
drinking a monster to stay awake
