Still I walked.
#WhisperingNature

A road lies ahead,
a path carved in thorns,
That seeks to bite, to rip, to tear.

The trees rustle angrily,
As I take a step,
into the thorns, onto the path
That promised redemption.

They pricked, they maimed,
Still I walked, through this bloody puddle.

The wind whispered, "Stop."
I asked why.
It moaned, sending the sharp stench
of blood wafting in my way.

"No more!" it wailed.
Still I walked.
The leaves balked, so did the thorns
At my feet,
Still I walked.

A flash of pain blinded my senses,
All became white, for a second
A cry escaped my lips,
Pain rippling like stormy waves.

I looked ahead,
at the miles that seemed to stretch on and on,
and bowed.
"Just a little more", the leaves spoke,
the words cooling my heated skin.

I grimaced, at the words, and the pain,
but walked, gasping with each step.
Just a little more...
just a little.... more.
